Why ‘Deadliest Catch’ May Have Lost Fans’ Trust
Reality TV is not always real, as most fans have figured out. When the shows edit together footage, it is often done to create drama and manufacture tension. Even shows based in reality, like Deadliest Catch, have moments that are not exactly true to life. This appears to be the case with Bob, as far as some fans are concerned.
Here is what fans are saying about Bob and how they have commented that not everything is as it seems.
Fans Question Bob Running Her Family’s Company
There is a big storyline in Deadliest Catch that sees Bob working on the Victory. It seemed like her parents left the boat to her and that she has to run everything by herself, including the family business, on her own. However, this appears to be untrue.
A Reddit post was made asking about the situation. The OP asked why Bob’s parents left everything to just her when she has two older brothers with more experience. They then asked if this was because Bob was the only child of both parents, so that meant the boat was hers as a result.
However, some other fans pointed out what was really going on here:
“They left her and her brother’s two fishing vessels. I don’t think it’s completely true that they were both left for her to run. I think it makes a good storyline.”
“The narrative that it was all resting on her shoulders and she needed to become a captain to save the family business was created entirely for the show. In reality, her brothers run the boat.”
This was a case where, seemingly, Deadliest Catch decided that it would look better for the young, inexperienced Bob was put in charge without help. However, if the fans are correct, this was just another manufactured storyline.
Other Ways Deadliest Catch Has Lost Fans Trust
This also isn’t the only time that Deadliest Catch would have manufactured drama to make the show more entertaining. The series has already been accused of using footage from different parts of the season in other scenes to make things look bad when they couldn’t get good filming during those times.
There are also fans who have started to turn away from the show thanks to the drama. Some have suggested that it seems the series prefers to focus on behind-the-scenes drama and is passing up more instances of showing the actual crabbing – which is what drew in fans to begin with.
