American Pickers’ Mike Wolfe and co-star Jersey Jon take break from filming show to ‘chill’ after ratings plummet
AMERICAN Pickers’ Mike Wolfe and his co-star Jersey Jon have taken some time off to relax away from filming the show.
The History Channel program has experienced a rollercoaster of ratings in recent seasons.
Mike, 59, and his co-star Jon “Jersey Jon” Szalay, 61, stepped back from their roles for a “chill” day in Birmingham, Alabama, on Monday.
The reality star posted an update via his Instagram Stories as he took some time off from filming the show.
In the photo, the TV personality snapped the back of Jersey Jon, who was wearing a denim jacket and seated on a bright red barstool.
In the background, fans could spot dozens of liquor bottles and bright-colored decor.
Mike captioned his post, “@jsrestore chilling @burritolounge Birmingham Alabama.”
In the next story, the American Pickers star filmed racks holding two red antique motorcycles.
MORE EPISODES!
The father of one’s day off came as the History Channel show continues to fluctuate in viewership ratings.
On Sunday, Jersey Jon shared a photo on his Instagram feed announcing that American Pickers is filming more episodes even though it’s the middle of the season.
He posted a message that read, “Down in the Deep South filming all-new episodes of American Pickers!! Stay tuned!!”
The picture showed a rundown antique black car with flowers in the trunk.
The side of the vehicle was covered in white paint and there were no tires in the front.
The rundown car sat in front of a large forest on a rainy day, surrounded by an open yard.
RATING ROLLERCOASTER
American Pickers ratings have remained strong recently, as the numbers near 1 million viewers despite fan backlash over the show.
Mike stars on the program with his brother Robbie, Danielle Colby, and Jon.
The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed the March 6 episode, Farm Fresh, brought in 936,000 viewers.
A description for the episode read, “With a fleet of pricey cars and barns exploding with top-notch treasures, Mike and Robbie have high hopes for a sprawling family farm in Ohio.
“Down the road in West Virginia, the Wolfe brothers pick the scratch-and-dent room of Clifford’s automobile museum–a small-town operation with big ambitions.”
Ratings for the February 28 episode brought in the highest of the season with 966,000 watchers.
The February 14 episode Roadside Relics brought in 774,000 viewers.
The ratings were a drop from episode 12, The Eyes Have It, which aired on February 7 and brought in 835,000 viewers.
The Wednesday, January 31 episode, The Mile-Long Yard Sale, brought in 813,000 viewers.
This was a major decline from the January 24 episode, The Five Generation Pick, which brought in the second-highest ratings for Season 25 with 948,000 viewers.
MERCH MYSTERY
Viewers aside, Mike’s merchandise store has started running again after abruptly shutting down earlier this month.
A section of his Antique Archeology site returned online with new apparel items.
The online store includes an Antique Picker Life hat, a Wanderlust v-neck T-shirt, and a Picker Nation shirt.
A new logo appeared in the carousel and promised interested buyers “fresh drops every month.”
Instead of the “shop now” logo, the site was hit with a disclaimer in early March.
When users clicked on the Sale section under the Shop category, they were greeted with a “Page not found” message.
“The page you were looking for doesn’t exist. You may have mistyped the address, or the page may have moved,” it read.
The site disruption came as a shock since the store’s Instagram account has been teasing new apparel to buy.
